Vegan Interior Design + Animal-Inclusive SDGs

Episode 454, original air date November 3, 2021, on Unity Online Radio. Listen now at UOR, on your favorite podcast app.

In this episode I speak with Alice Duerr, founder of Australian design studio and educational platform Vegan Interior Design. Her company educates both international interior design students and established businesses on how to create sustainable, cruelty-free materials and finishes. Here we discuss her new book, the aptly titled Vegan Interior Design(winner of the PETA Vegan Homeware Award), just in time for the first annual Vegan Interior Design Week.

Aline Duerr, author of Vegan Interior Design and founder of Vegan Interior Design Week

Claire Smith of Beyond Investing, Beyond Animal, and Beyond Cruelty

In the second half we feature Claire Smith, vegan entrepreneur and impact investor. Claire created investment platform Beyond Investing, which designs cruelty-free programs in public equity markets. She invests venture capital in vegan and plant-based protein businesses with Beyond Impact. She is co-founder of Beyond Animal, a networking and funding service designed to drive the growth of a thriving vegan economy. And she is President of Beyond Cruelty Foundation, formed to campaign for zero animal exploitation and to fund safe havens for animals. Today we’ll be discussing Beyond Cruelty’s campaign for SDG18 – Zero Animal Exploitation.

Blast from the Past! We’ve discussed vegan interior design before, and if it’s a topic of interest for you, do check out our March 23, 2016, episode: the second segment is my interview with LA designer Shannon Scott who takes us from closets to kitchens and throughout an eco-savvy, vegan home; and our November 6, 2019, episode when (second segment again) Miami interior design expert Deborah DiMare shows us the fashionable nuts and bolts of living vegan all through the house. In addition, Claire Smith was a guest before discussing compassionate investing: Listen here from October 16, 2019.

I went vegetarian in 1969 and starting my observations of the vegan/vegetarian world started soon after.
