So many people are getting confused by the conflicting information about staying well during this COVID-19 crisis. Jayney Goddard is President of The Complementary Medical Association and author of several No. 1 bestsellers – including two books on surviving pandemic flu, always bases her natural health recommendations upon properly established, robust scientific research. Jayney demystifies the steps that we can take, safely and effectively to ‘shore up’ our immune systems so that we are less susceptible to COVID-19 and other opportunistic infections.

Website This is where Ms. Goddard is offering a plethora of free giveaways — meditations, recipes, e-books and more — that will be especially helpful right now: jayneygoddard.org

Angela Crawford, Ph.D. has 22 years of experience as a licensed psychologist, providing holistic psychotherapy approaches to address stress, anxiety, adjustment issues, and trauma. More recently, she has become a vegan lifestyle coach and educator. She is passionate about empowering individuals to create healthy lives aligned with their authentic purpose, highest values, and deepest compassion. She is an alumnus of the October 2019 Main Street Vegan Academy, and is currently enrolled in the Plant-Based Nutrition certification course through eCornell and the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies.

Dr. Crawford is allowing me to share insights she sent to me in a personal email last week when I was debating whether or not it was a good idea to continue going to Central Park with my dog. I resolutely keep six — or really ten — feet away from others, but many of them aren’t as concerned as I am. My question was: “What do you when it seems that your choice is your health or your sanity?” Here’s what she wrote to me; please take and use whatever might apply to you:

It’s not surprising you might have heightened anxiety now, but I’m sorry to hear it, especially since it’s negatively impacting one thing that was positive and joyful. It’s possible it may just lessen on its own, as you adjust to the “new normal.”  But some reflections to help it along:
1) One thing that helps anxiety is taking action on the things we have control over, and it really sounds like you are doing all you can on that front.  You are keeping 6 feet away from people as much as possible, you are cleaning things appropriately, you are wearing protective gear.  So maybe you can reassure yourself that you are doing all the precautions that are possible.
2) Our fight-or-flight system kicks in due to fear, but isn’t helpful for this kind of danger.  So draw on all of your mindfulness and calming skills, trying to physically come back into your body with the breath.  Mentally checking in that there is no immediate danger that calls for the fight-or-flight response.  Instead, trying to bring your body back to what’s called “relaxed and ready”–where instead of feeling hypervigilant, the body can just be in the moment.  Reassuring self-messages:  In this moment I am safe.  In this moment all is well.
3) Bring self-compassion (Kristin Neff, Ph.D, www.self-compassion.org) to the feelings and fears that are coming up.  We are in an unprecedented time, and so many people are having heightened fears, including existential/sacred anxiety that comes with crisis (Robert Gerzon, Finding Serenity in the Age of Anxiety). Hold space for the feelings, at the same time as you remain committed to moving forward, continuing to take your walks.  Hold the fear with compassion, as you would for a friend or loved one who was having these feelings.

A shoutout to our sponsor, Complement. Developed by vegan dietitian Dr. Pamela Fergusson, and the NoMeat Athlete, Matt Frazier, Complement enables you to get your vitamin B12, vitamin D3, and the essential Omega 3 fatty acids (DHA & EPA) in an easy once-a-day spray. Click here for more info and to order. Use the code MAINSTREETVEGAN for a 10% discount.

And now the good folks of Complement have a new product: Complement Plus, a supplement in tablet form that includes all the nutrients in Complement spray, along with zinc, iodine, selenium,  magnesium, and vitamin K2. Essential for blood clotting, healthy bones, and heart health, the only plant-food source of vitamin K2 is natto, an obscure, fermented soy food and one that is definitely an acquired taste (and smell). To get Complement Plus at a discount, simply go to https://www.lovecomplement.com (where you can order regular Complement, as well), but this time your discount code will be MAINSTREETVEGAN+.

posted June 28, 2022 Ethical vegans care deeply about animals and strive to live a cruelty-free life. In addition to following a vegan diet, we don’t buy leather or wool, and we carefully choose our cosmetics. When it comes to medicines, though, we don’t have the option of following our ethics. An antiquated law requires... […]

I went vegetarian in 1969 and starting my observations of the vegan/vegetarian world started soon after.
