Vegan Podcasts, by Susan M. Landaira, MS, MVLCE

Podcasts have been around for many, many years, it seems. However, that they are becoming increasingly more popular. I, personally, love podcasts because they are usually both fun and informative at the same time. I LOVE that I can listen while driving or going for a walk. When there’s a podcast you listen to regularly, you become familiar with the hosts/hostesses. Unlike reading an interview or article (which is a great thing, as well), podcasts allow you to hear the voice of the host/hostess. Joy, disappointment, even sarcasm, come through and amplify the experience. I’ve found myself quoting podcasts, waiting anxiously for upcoming episodes and laughing along.

Podcasts on just about any topic can be found. However, I’d like to offer you some great suggestions on podcasts from great vegan activists, as well as a few that have a vegan twist. If you haven’t listened to a podcast yet, I’m sure you’ll get hooked on these.

1) Main Street Vegan Podcast
Of course, this is the number one podcast for vegans and not just because I’m an alumni of the Main Street Vegan Academy. Victoria Moran hosts a plethora of amazing vegan activists, writers, chefs, athletes, etc. (the list goes on and on). This podcast is light-hearted, educational and compassionate. Victoria manages to ask the questions we are all thinking. I love that you can call in with questions, too! If you have a burning question for Victoria or one of her guests, call in and ask it during the live show, Wednesdays 3 to 4 pm Eastern Time, 816-347-5519. There are not many interactive podcasts. This is where your podcast journey should begin.

2) Easy Vegan with JL Fields
As a fellow Main Street Vegan Academy alumni, as well as, cookbook author and the founder and culinary director of the Colorado Springs Vegan Cooking Academy, it only makes sense that JL’s podcast features everything from vegan wine to raising vegan children. I wouldn’t go anywhere else to find out information on vegan food ideas, but this podcast doesn’t stop there…listen to episodes on vegan fashion, vegan businesses and investing.

3) Our Hen House
Senior Editor of VegNews Magazine and author, Jasmin Singer, and Columbia University animal law professor and Main Street Vegan Academy faculty member, Mariann Sullivan, offer up insightful conversations on key vegan issues. Our Hen House will take you through the world of animal exploitation and the activism that counteracts it.

4) The Food Heals Podcast
Lively co-hosts, Suzy Hardy and Allison Melody will take you on an adventure with plant-based foods and nutrition. Guests on this podcasts take you into the world of food by discussing how food has changed their lives. In addition to food, you’ll find other helpful health information on this podcast. (Hint: You won’t want to miss episode 197!) Did I mention, they were just featured in VegNews Magazine?

5) The Bearded Vegans
You will immediately feel like you are sitting in a room with the co-hosts of this podcast. The dialogue between them makes you feel as if you’re in on a conversation between friends that you have graciously been asked to join. Andy Tabar and Paul Steller not only discuss topics of interest to all vegans, but they offer reviews, which I love.

6) The Animal Law Podcast
Looking to delve into animal law and policies? Here’s your podcast. Animal law professor and activist, Mariann Sullivan, does a phenomenal job of taking us inside the world of animal rights. With her guests, Marianne discusses cases and information that will enlighten and touch the hearts of every animal activist.

Oh, another great thing about podcasts? You can never miss an episode! They are recorded and posted for your listening pleasure any time, anywhere — while you drive, walk the dog, run on the treadmill. The above short list should keep you busy for a while (you’ll want to listen to all past episodes). There are so many more podcasts providing vegan information out there — give them a try. Happy listening!

Thanks so much Susan for your recommendations, I do listen to Main Street Vegan weekly but I didn’t know about the other podcasts.
